Wickleigh started with the big light. Every home in Britain has one: a single bright bulb in the middle of the ceiling that can make a warm room feel like a waiting area. In our own houses we kept switching it off and lighting the corners instead, and after too many evenings spent hunting for lamps that were either flimsy or priced like sculpture, we decided to open the shop we could not find.

Wickleigh is a British lighting label based in York. We sell pendants, wall lights, ceiling shades, table lamps and floor lamps, in more styles than one room could hold: woven rattan for soft, calm spaces, brass and smoked glass for moodier corners, and plenty in between. What ties the range together is the light it casts, warm and gentle, the sort you want at nine in the evening.

Our mission is to make good lighting easy to buy. Every product page tells you the measurements, the fitting and what comes in the box, in plain English, the way a shopkeeper would tell you across a counter. The price should feel fair on the day you order and still feel fair a year on.

Our vision is to become the name British homes come back to when a room needs warming up, one lamp at a time. We are building slowly, starting with the pieces we would happily hang in our own houses, and adding to the range as we find things worth adding.
