A solar garden light that switches on by itself as evening falls

As the light drops, ten small spheres wake above your borders and sway with the smallest breath of wind, like a cluster of fireflies caught just above the leaves. This solar garden light needs no socket, no switch and no adjusting.

Ten fireflies on flexible stems

A polished stainless steel stake carries a small matt black ABS head, from which ten flexible wire stems reach out, each tipped with a ball of frosted plastic. The whole stands 78cm tall, including a 38.6cm stake driven into the soil, so the fireflies sit at the height of perennials, ornamental grasses or a rose bed. The stems bend in the wind and spring back, and it's this slow movement that gives the illusion of flight.

A light that settles over the foliage

The warm white finish gives an amber, candle-like glow that warms dark green foliage and the stone tones of a terrace. The multicolour finish slowly fades the spheres through seven shades, for slightly more festive evenings. Expect 6 to 12 hours of light after a full day's charge, enough to see a dinner outside through to the end. The fireflies set the mood and trace a line of light: they accompany a path rather than replacing it the way a floodlight would.

No wiring, no upkeep

The adjustable solar panel recharges over 8 hours of full sun, then a sensor switches the fireflies on at dusk and off in the morning, with nothing for you to do. A rechargeable 1.2V AA Ni-MH battery is included. The whole thing is rated IP65 and stays outdoors all year, through rain, wind and snow. The stake pushes into the ground by hand, no tools required, in an open spot with the panel facing the sky, away from the shadow of a wall or tree.
