A vintage table lamp that sets down a halo, not a spotlight
On a desk, a chest of drawers or a bedside table, this vintage table lamp makes no attempt to light the whole room. Its white opaline glass, ribbed like a shell, holds the light and gives it back as a soft circle at hand height. A disc of gold metal set on top closes the dome and turns every bit of light downward.
A ribbed glass dome, a walnut-finish column
The shade is a wide, low dome in white opaline glass, 30.5 cm across. Around sixty fine vertical ribs run across its surface and catch the daylight. The top is closed with a disc of brushed gold metal, and a ring of the same metal edges the lower rim. Below, a column in a matt walnut finish meets a round gold metal base of 17.5 cm, heavy enough that the lamp stays put wherever it is set down. Total height: 40.6 cm. The dome extends well beyond the base, so allow 31 cm of width on the furniture below.
A soft light, for reading and for working
The LED bulb is included, in either warm white 3000K for the end of the day or cool white 6000K for working. The opaline glass diffuses without glare, no hot spot, no hard shadow on a page. The beam falls onto the surface below, which makes it as much a desk lamp as a bedside or accent light. Expect a useful halo of 1 to 3 m² around it. There is no dimming, only on and off, worked with a small gold chain hanging beneath the dome.
Ready to plug in, nothing to assemble
The cord measures 150 cm and ends in a standard mains plug: unbox it, plug it in, done. No electrician, no drilling required. The socket is a standard E27 fitting, so the bulb can be replaced anywhere when the time comes. Wired for 90 to 260 V, it suits UK 230 V mains.
